S: Leviticus 23:3 “You have six days each week for your ordinary work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath day of complete rest, an official day for holy assembly. It is the Lord’s Sabbath day, and it must be observed wherever you live.
O: Is the Sabbath still a requirement? The New Testament makes it clear that there are no special days. However, the principle of the Sabbath still holds – we must have a regular day of rest and worship. And when we come before Him, we must be pure.
In many churches, the sacrament of Holy Communion or the Eucharist or the Lord’s Supper is held every week, sometimes every meeting. So this reminds us to confess our sins regularly and keep clean accounts with God, for the New Testament teaches us that we must not take the body and blood of Jesus in an unworthy manner.
The principle is there from the Old Testament as well, where the people have to give a blood sacrifice to atone for their sins before worship.
A: In our modern Christian lives, sometimes we are so busy on Sunday that it’s not a day of rest. We must take time to rest regularly and worship regularly and confess our sins regularly.
P: Father, help me to keep balanced with rest, confession and worship.
